THREE members of the same family have been banned from keeping horses for life, after their malnourished pony was found collapsed in a muddy field.

Victoria Jaggers of Wellington Road, Tilbury, her husband, Kelly Trundle and her daughter, Alicia Jaggers were all found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to the animal at Basildon Magistrates’ Court.

They were all given lifetime bans from keeping equines, and Trundle, 42, was handed a 12-month community order and told to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

The court heard the RSPCA were alerted to Frugal’s condition in December 2012 by a member of the public.

When Inspector Matt Gough arrived at the site in Tilbury where the two-year-old horse was being kept , he found the pony collapsed and unable to stand up.

Mr Gough told magistrates he was forced to call the fire service to help him get the pony out of the field.

The piebald cob was taken to a vet who confirmed it was suffering from starvation.

The court heard the pony belonged to Victoria Jaggers, but her husband, Trundle and daughter Alicia were meant to be caring for it in the six months leading up to its rescue by the RSPCA.

When interviewed by the RSPCA Alicia said she had helped with animal for three months but then had been unable to tend to it, due to personal reasons.
