Intu Lakeside launches new name with a splash!

KEEN to make the most of the summer, thousands of local people visited intu Lakeside this weekend for its Summer Party and saw the iconic spire lights change from light blue to orange in recognition of the centre’s new name.

The centre was packed to the brim with entertainment for the two day party, including music, dance acts, food and drink, family fun and local community groups. An indoor beach proved particularly popular with shoppers of all ages who made the most of the nostalgic fun and games on offer which included sandcastle competitions, sand sculpting and free Shakeaway milkshakes!

Performances on the main stage by local singer Leanne Jarvis from The Voice, Britain’s Got Talent’s Julian Smith and the UK’s top sports freestylers lifted the spirits of shoppers who also discovered surprises like living statues, stilt walkers and face painters around every corner.

On the Saturday evening, lucky locals Angela Gibbs and Dennis Kneen enjoyed a moment in the spotlight as they lit up intu Lakeside. Having won a competition to press the button and turn the centre’s lights orange, Angela and Dennis thoroughly enjoyed the once-in-a-lifetime experience. After almost 23 years of being blue, the shopping centre spire will now glow bright orange at night.

Izzie Peskett, intu Lakeside’s Marketing Manager, says: “We wanted to celebrate the exciting new changes with all of our shoppers and really bring the community together for a big party. We’re delighted that so many people joined us for the event and we can’t wait to show them what else we’ve got planned for the future.”
