Table Cricket 07/10/13 match reports
THREE teams took part in the last friendly event prior to the official start to the inaugural season of the Thurrock Table Cricket League.
The Beacon Hill Buddies (Captained by Nick from Beacon Hill post 16), played against The Socks (A team of TLS customers from Ockendon, but captained by Sunny) & The Stanford Table Cricket Club (Half the team from Stanford, the other from Grays & skippered by Roger).
The format is that teams start with 200 runs and score as in common cricket, but loose 5 runs for each wicket lost but bat their full over, each player bowls and bats one over each. Teams are made up of 6 players.
The Socks v Beacon Hill Buddies
The Socks were blown away by the bowling of Jade in this match, she took 4 wickets in her 6 deliveries, in all, The Socks lost 11 wickets and were restricted to 205.
The Buddies were buoyed by their bowling performance and came out swinging in the 2nd Innings, scoring at 15 runs per over and only loosing 5 wickets, they ended on 265-5, winning by a massive 60 runs.
The Stanford Table Cricket Club v Beacon Hill Buddies
Stanford won the toss and chose to bat first. They amassed a creditable 238-7 but it still looked gettable for the Buddies, however, the Buddies will blame the lose of 2 wickets in the last over that deducted them a vital 10 runs ending up with 229-9, a loosing margin of only 9!
At the end of proceedings Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions Director, Sunny, even after losing, sportingly thanked everyone for taking part and particularly Laura from “Cricket for All” for organising and officiating the day.
