Bulphan WI: November report

By Janet McCheyne

THEbulphan2 November meeting of Bulphan WI was a Christmas craft “Show and Tell”. What a lot of talent we have among our members! And many of the ideas inspired us to have a go ourselves.

The meeting on Wednesday, 11th December will be a festive occasion: we start at 7.30pm and members and visitors are asked to bring a plate of party food to share; we will have wine/juice flowing and most of the evening will be devoted to interactive games, where we will get a chance to demonstrate our team spirit. All will have a Christmas theme. As well as having a good time, we will be thinking of those we may be able to help, with an opportunity to make a donation to Thurrock Women’s Refuge.

We now have our 2014 programme all booked: we always welcome visitors, but just give me a ring if you want to check. Here are the details of what we will be up to next year:

January: A fun auction, with June Ward, ex-Chairman of Essex WI, as auctioneer
February: Panto time: Little Red Riding Hood (with a twist!)
March: Elaine Smith: Colour Styling
April: Birthday party with a wartime theme
May: AGM and discussion of the Resolution
June: Car treasure hunt
July: How to fictionalise your life and get away with it (Sarah Tucker)
August: Women in Islam – Anne Davison
September: Activities taster session and barbecue
October: DIY Travel Show: members memorable trips
November: Crafts and flower arranging demonstration: Shirley Perkins
December: Restaurant outing to celebrate Christmas

Throughout the year, we will be collecting for Thurrock Foodbank – just pop suitable items of groceries into the basket which will be out each month, and one of our members who volunteer for this charity will deliver it.

We welcome ladies from all local areas – you don’t have to live in Bulphan to attend; you don’t have to commit to being a member, but after your first free visit there is a visitor’s fee of £3 to pay. Try us – you’ll like us!
