THE LABOUR CANDIDATE FOR South Basildon and East Thurrock has reacted with anger at having his challenge to a debate with the Conservative MP, Stephen Metcalfe.
Mr Le-Surf asked for a series of debates during the year. But Mr Metcalfe explained that he is busy engaged with interacting with the public on the doorstep, busy trying to solve problems such as the Felmores Bail Hostel and East Tilbury crossing and did not want to be drawn into ya-boo politics.
Mr Le-Surf has blogged on Labourlist to express his dismay.
Mr Le-Surf said: “Is the same happening in other seats? Is this a policy directive from Conservative head office or a local choice to avoid having to attempt to defend the indefensible?
“Residents have the right to hold sitting MPs to account and to put hopeful candidates under the spotlight too. Politicians and policies are not all the same and unlike Mr. Metcalfe I am more than willing to debate these differences in the public arena as well as on the doorstep”.

MP, Stephen Metcalfe.
If what the Tory party are doing is so right why don’t Metcalfe have the balls to stand up in public and defend their policies, the short answer is, their policies are so wrong and target the weakest in our society and are completely disgusting ,if I was Metcalfe I to would avoid at any cost being confronted in any public debate about Tory policies in this country
Perhaps Mr Le Surf could start here by expalining exactly what it is Labour would do if they got into power instead of spouting bland platitudes that are meaningless to most people. He obviously has the opportunity to state Labour’s case here so why not just do it instead of hiding behind an obvious political stunt.
