POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a road crash in Grays which has left a motorcyclist seriously ill in hospital.
The collision happened when a motorcyclist appears to have lost control of his machine while travelling along the A126 Eastern Way shortly after 1pm on Monday, January 27 and struck a lamp post near its junction with Bankfoot.
The rider was airlifted to Royal London Hospital after sustaining multiple injuries. The 43-year-old local man is currently in a stable condition.
Road policing officers were forced to close the intersection of the A126 at Hogg Lane and London Road while forensic collision investigators looked to identify the cause of the crash. This closure was lifted at 5:30pm.

Update: 1530 hrs
A motorcyclist has been airlifted to hospital following a collision with a lampost earlier today (January 27).
The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) was called at 1.10pm and sent two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, and the Hertfordshire Air Ambulance to the scene on Hogg Lane, Grays.
A spokesman for EEAST said: “We were called to the aid of a man, who was believed to be in his 40s, who had suffered life-threatening head and chest injuries. He was treated on scene and was sedated before being airlifted to the Royal London Hospital, where upon arrival he was believed to be in a critical condition.”

MOTORISTS are advised to avoid the main intersection in Grays this afternoon (Monday) following a serious road crash.
The collision happened when a motorcyclist appears to have lost control of their machine while travelling along the A126 Eastern Way shortly after 1pm on Monday, January 27 and struck a lamp post near its junction with Bankfoot.
The rider has been airlifted to Royal London Hospital after sustaining head injuries. They are believed to be in a critical, life-threatening condition.
As a result, road policing officers have been forced to close the intersection of the A126 at Hogg Lane and London Road while a scene investigation takes place. This road closure will last through the rush hour so motorists, especially parents picking up their children from nearby schools, should find alternative routes.
