THIS year’s International Women’s Day will be marked by Thurrock Council on Wednesday, 5 March.
Although international celebrations are due to take place on the Saturday (8 March), the council’s community and equality team will host Wednesday’s event – including a chance for networking tea and coffee from noon until 1.15pm in Committee Room 1.
A stall will be held in the reception area of the Civic Offices in Grays through the morning to celebrate and raise awareness of women’s equality issues and their social, political and economic achievements.
Everyone is welcome to visit the stall for information which will include services provided by partners in the voluntary sector.
Cllr Lynn Worrall, portfolio holder for communities, said: “The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is Inspiring Change.
“Thurrock’s women have a long and strong history of doing exactly this including advocacy for women’s advancement, challenging the status quo for women’s equality, and being vigilant in achieving positive change.
“Anyone who wants to mark the day should come by and join in the celebrations.”
Thurrock Council’s library service will also be promoting resources relevant to International Women’s Day and for more information contact diversity@thurrock.gov.uk
