Dear Editor,
I WOULD like to thank all those people who voted for me. I do understand the protest vote but I was powerless to change the immigration issue.
I was a local ward councillor dealing with local issues. My commitment was to the residents of Ockendon and their problems locally.
I am sorry I can no longer represent you. The past four years has been a wonderful journey and an honour to work for you.
Thank you to everyone who helped me.
Lynn Carr
Cllr Barry Johnson has added
“Thank you to all the people of Ockendon who took the time to vote last Thursday and especially those who voted for Lyn. It is always disappointing to lose hard working councillors and Lyn was certainly that. She was someone with whom it has been a privilege to work alongside for the past two years.
“I am not afraid to admit that I will miss her tenacity and support however the people have spoken and although I cannot fathom how any UKIP policy may help local residents with their problems, I can only hope that the incoming Councillor to Ockendon is more akin to Lyn than Cllr Kiely.
“Please be assured that I will continue to work hard for you and will continue with the regular monthly surgeries held at St Nicholas Church reading rooms on the first Thursday of the month.
“I do hope to see Lyn running for office again soon but will advise her to take a well earned rest and treat it as a sabbatical only.
Thank you

So sorry to lose you Lynn. You proved that you care about your local Ockendon time and time again.
Unfortunately you represented the political group that ignored the people that originally voted them into power, and so suffered from the protest vote.
Perhaps you can cross the political floor and re-enter local council again sometime soon.
It’s such a shame that Lynn was not re elected, she has proved herself to be a competent and caring Councillor, we cannot boast there are too many of those in Thurrock. I can only surmise that her residents voted on the National issues rather than voting on their ward issues, as did so many in Thurrock. We cannot afford to let decent hard working Councillor go without thanking them for all they have done and achieved throughout their term. Hope to see you back Lynn, maybe next year. All the best.
Why do you claim that a vote for UKIP was a protest vote, you are belittling the local community by insinuating that they did not agree with the UKIP local manifesto.
Lambo what local manifesto? Ukip have no manifesto other than they are against imigration! Their candidates avoided interviews at every opportunity!
Oh what a terrible shame the people of Ockendon have lost such a honest, hardworking Councillor as Lynn Carr. When she took office 4 years ago she made a promise to the people of Ockendon to be their voice, their strength and their guidance and WOW did she keep that promise. I have never known a councillor that was so dedicated and put her heart and soul into helping the people of Ockendon and beyond. Please don’t take my word on Lynns’ incredible determination and work done, look on her facebook page or just simply talk to residents she has helped. She asked the people what they wanted to see In a LOCAL councillor and gave them exactly that. Someone that would fight their corner and solve their problems at a local level, as that is all you can do a local councillor, central government issues are beyond your control at this level. I do hope the people of Ockendon realised this when they voted in UKIP on Thursday, I’m assuming they hoped that UKIP will work harder for local residents. For the sake of Ockendon residents I sincerely hope they do.
I could not agree more that it was a protest vote, I helped to distribute some leaflets for Lynn Carr as a thanks for all her fantastic help and the neigbours of mine that I did speak to that day did tell me straight that they will be voting for UKIP as in their own words ‘we are letting in too many foreigners’ I did remind them that as cllr Lynn Carr is a local cllr she cannot impact on national issues. This was not something that people seemed to understand, put your feet up Lynn have a rest. You know the saying that you don’t know what you have got until it has gone………..you will be missed by many!! 2020 HERE WE COME 🙂
2018 I meant ha ha!!
I think Aaron Kielly’s seat is up next year.
So is Charlie Curtis
