TWELVE excited children from Bulphan C of E Priamary School visited the studios of Gateway 97.8 on Wednesday 21st May and after a tour of the studios were given a big surprise.
Regular presenter of the programme Gateway to Jazz, David Fenn offered them the opportunity to make the first hour of his show, to be broadcast on Wednesday 28th May at 7 p.m.
David had written a special script about the early life of jazz legend Louis Armstrong and the children were each given the chance to read a link and introduce a record. With very little time to practise, the children were soon taken into the studio to record their show.
It was an opportunity to showcase their literacy skills, gain confidence and to experience what it is like to be a radio presenter. For ten and eleven year olds they performed magnificently. The show is usually presented by David Fenn on behalf of the Rotary Club of Corringham Thameside.
In a couple of weeks it will be the turn of two lucky seven year olds from Corringham Primary School who will be invited to read the weather forecast. Another example of Rotary working in the community.
