POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a man attempted to steal a teenage boy’s mobile phone at Corringham.
The 16-year-old boy was at Mackley Drive near to the junction with Lyndhurst Road when he was grabbed by the shoulders and ordered to hand over the phone, which he was using at the time.
The boy, who is from Corringham, refused to hand over the phone and when a passing cyclist stopped to help the suspect ran off empty-handed.
Any witnesses who saw the incident shortly before 7pm on Friday June 13 should contact the investigating officer Dc Grant Welbourne at Grays CID on 101.
A 28-year-old man from Stanford-le-Hope was arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been bailed until June 22 pending further enquiries.
