RESIDENTS had the opportunity to raise their concerns regarding plans for a new football stadium in Stanford-le-Hope.
East Thurrock United are in the first stages of putting together an application to submit to the planning authority at Thurrock Council.
Stanford West councillor, Shane Hebb organised the meeting.
Cllr Hebb said: “The conversation between the residents local to the Billet field, and the East Thurrock United Football Club has only just begun, and will clearly be going on for some time”
“I must give credit where credit is due – the club came to talk to people, which is more than can be said for some developers out there. It is important over the coming months for everyone to keep talking, so residents are informed of proposals to their local area, and can make informed decisions as to whether or not they could support such an initiative should a planning application be submitted in the future.
“In an age where local opinion needs to count more and more, let’s hope any application that is submitted considers and plans for the concerns raised on Wednesday night by the local people”
The secretary of East Thurrock United, Neil Speight also felt the meeting went well.
Mr Speight said: “It was good to get the feedback from the local community. We understand their concerns and will take them into account as we progress.
“This club has always been at the heart of the community and this meeting further underlined that philosophy.
Also at the meeting was prospective Labour candidate, Mike Le-Surf.
Mr Le-Surf said: “The meeting was well organised and well attended by local residents who are rightly concerned about the potential impact of relocation.
“I have been to many matches at Rookery Hill and know what a great community club East Thurrock United is.
“If elected as Member of Parliament for the area next May I will work closely with all involved for the best outcome.”

I thought it was a good meeting. The local residents were able to express their concerns in a sensible manner, and I’m sure the three gentlemen from the football club took these on board… It was good to see local politicians of all persuasions in attendance. .. I personally think this will be a great opportunity for the football club to develop a quality community facility on the site, in co-operation with the local residents of course.
