AN INQUIRY to a bid to build 501 homes in Aveley is underway at the civic offices in Thurrock.
The application was passed, in controversial circumstances, by the Thurrock Council planning committee.
Among the speakers on the first day was the agent for the applicants as well as Thurrock MP, Jackie Doyle Price, who has been a vehement of the application.
Ms Doyle Price pointed to the robustness of the petition in favour of the application.
A number of Grays Athletic fans attended the first day of the inquiry including former mayor, George Watts and life president, Glyn Jarvis. Grays Athletic have a particular interest as they hope to gain from the application in the form of a ground near Treetops School.
Aveley residents have also given evidence and have stressed a consistent theme that they moved and invested in Aveley as a village and would not want to see Purfleet and Aveley joined up to create one large conurbation.
The inquiry continues.
