HUNDREDS of children at the Big Lunch in Grays Town Park last month learned about the importance of road safety at the event.

Thurrock Council’s road safety team were at the park, speaking with around 400 children and lots of their parents adults about the importance of parents setting a good example when crossing the roads.

Road safety colouring sheets and pencils were handed out as well as Thurrock Travel caps, drinks bottles and bugs. The youngsters were also able to enter a competition where they had to draw and colour a school crossing patrol.

Three winners were invited to come along to the Civic Offices in Grays on Tuesday (12 August) to collect their prizes from Cllr Steve Liddiard the Mayor of Thurrock.

He handed over a Thurrock Travel blue bag and teddy bear along with a ruler, pencil and eraser.

The children and their parents were shown around the council chambers before receiving their prizes in the Mayor’s Parlour.

The winners are (from left with the mayor and their prize bags): Heena Hashimi aged seven; Louise Howell, nine; and five-year-old Ranna Hashimi.
