YOU may never have heard of Angie Dowds. In 2007, Angie was a fitness instructor for Grays Athletic. She went on to feature in a fitness programme called "UK’s Biggest Loser".
One of the players who "got" what Angie was trying to do was midfielder, Ernie Cooksey. When Ernie was diagnosed with cancer in 2008. Angie was on hand to advise him re eating healthily. Sadly, Ernie died in 2008.
Somewhere, Angie lost her way and fell to her death in Beachy Head in 2011.
This reporter interviewed both. Sad times.
Recently, Private Eye gave over a whole page to illustrate how they felt national newspapers have ignored the Samaritans code on reporting on suicide in the case of the death of Robin Williams.
So for some, it was surprising that the response that Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle Price gave to the speculation that she may join UKIP "I would rather throw myself off Beachy Head" was splashed over as a front page.
The question is, whether that was appropriate language to use? Or are we all being so politically correct these days.
On the same day, the Harlow Star paper received a complaint that in reporting on Gypsy-Travellers, they had failed to use capital letters! Let’s hope they don’t read the Thurrock Enquirer!
You could ask why JDP chose Beachy Head and the MP may say that it is just an expression and if we start deconstructing what an MP says, then who on earth would stand for MP?
One person asked why JDP didn’t say "Jump off Dartford Crossing". Or alternatively, replace the words Beachy Head with Hillsborough? But that may not come naturally to a former employee of South Yorkshire Police?
What do you think?
