SOUTH BASILDON and East Thurrock Labour parliamentary candidate Mike Le-Surf was first to register support for Mencap‘s Hear my voice campaign.

Mike is one of four parliamentary candidates to sign up to support the new Mencap Manifeso which is being launched in parliament on Wednesday this week.

Every day, more than 1.4 million people with a learning disability and their families face issues like poor healthcare, hate crime and social isolation. But these issues are rarely, if ever, debated at election time and most politicians don’t understand how these things impact on people’s lives. This can change. People with a learning disability – and the millions of family members, carers and support workers connected to them – can make their voices heard on the issues that matter to them at the 2015 General Election.

South Basildon and East Thurrock candidate Mike Le-Surf said: “This is a great campaign and has my full support. The Tories think that charities should keep out of politics and “stick to their knitting”. I couldn’t disagree more. I have first-hand experience of the excellent work carried out by the policy, campaigns and activism teams at Mencap and know what a vital role they play in supporting the most vulnerable citizens in our society.”

The campaign has been set up to get people ready for the General Election in May 2015 when we vote to choose who will run the country for the next 5 years.

Mike Le-Surf added: “The “Hear my voice” campaign is all about getting MPs and parliamentary candidates to listen to what matters to people with a learning disability and their families. As the parliamentary candidate for South Basildon and East Thurrock I am delighted to join the campaign and turn up the voice of people with learning disabilities."

"Hear my voice" has its official launch at the House of Commons on Wednesday.
