FA Cup 1st Preliminary Round
Thurrock 2 v 0 Welwyn Garden City
THURROCK earned a place in the next round of the FA Cup with a win and a good performance against Welwyn Garden City.
The visitors started the brighter but after ten minutes Thurrock got on top and never looked back. On 16 minutes Joe Croft came off his line but Ross Wall’s shot from 40 yards went just over the bar. The goal came four minutes later when Wall went round Croft and slotted into the empty goal. Welwyn had their only chance on 24 minutes but Thurrock keeper Andy Walker was alert and smothered the ball. Rob Clark then went close with a 30 yarder well saved by Croft and Thurrock went into half time ahead.
The second half saw Thurrock content to let Welwyn have the ball as they were not creating any problems and they were unlucky not to double their lead when Charlie Stimson’s shot was blocked. Thurrock secured the win when Lamar Reynolds ran 70 yards, beating three players and slotted home.
