A 40-year-old woman had to be treated by Ambulance Service paramedics after breathing in smoke.
Crews arriving at the scene in Russell Road, Tilbury, reported that the fire was in the kitchen but that the whole of the three-storey townhouse was heavily smoke logged.
The fire was out by 11:24 hrs. Firefighters then used a high pressure fan to clear the building of smoke.
The casualty was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.
