SUNDAY’S fine weather helped swell the attendance for the RAF Association’s annual Service at the Grays War Memorial.
A congregation of well over one hundred enjoyed the simple, traditional programme of prayers, readings and hymns led by Rector. John Guest and Community Pastor. Maureen McPherson ably supported by the Grays Town Band.
Distinguished guests included Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Lord Petre, the Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Steve Liddiard and MP for Thurrock, Ms Jackie Doyle-Price was represented by Cllr Robert Gledhill.
The role of Parade Marshal was again left in the capable hands of Flight Lieutenant David Mortimer, OC 1582 Sqn ATC.
The Service Standards were carried by the Bearers who discharged the duties with their customary calmness whilst the active military touch was lent by 106 and 1582 Squadrons ATC and RN Training Ship, Boxer. The senior touch was added by representatives from the local military organisations. The civic services too, lent their weight to make the event so successful.
RAFA Thurrock Branch gives thanks to those of the Local Authority who gave their services and to Essex Police for their support and traffic control that kept the occasion safe ….. and thanks to every person who contributed in any way.
