THE October meeting of Bulphan WI was a DIY Travel Show where several members told their holiday stories many with props & souvenirs. We heard from ladies who had won a flight to New York on Concorde, been held hostage in Zimbabwe, travelled the world on a budget & ridden a dog sledge in Lapland.
The completion was for an interesting holiday souvenir. which brought a varied selection including a Marlin’s beak, didgeridoo, Grecian vase, glass from Venice and items from Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Canada, China, South Africa & Malaysia all with a fascinating story as to why they were chosen. It was certainly a worldwide evening!
Along the same theme Bulphan WI also took part in a Global social media event this month I am WI & #iamwi which was set up to show the diversity of WI members & dispel the stereotyping which some media attach to WI, not this one we may add!
This resulted in social media being swamped with images of WI members showing the range of ages, backgrounds, ethnicities & professions among them.
After a visit to the Florence Nightingale Museum last month, several of the members will be taking a guided tour around the Globe Theatre this month & a visit to the Royal British Legion poppy Factory is planned for November.
Next month’s meeting on Wednesday 12th November at 7.30pm in Bulphan Village Hall will see guest speaker Sarah Tucker telling us about “The Playground Mafia”, that’s all we know about it so if you’re as intrigued as we are pop along to find out more!
This year’s programme along with loads of other information & photographs is on our web site http://bulphanwi.weebly.com
