Tilbury community have their cake and eat it!

THE Clock Tower in Tilbury’s Civic Square took pride of place at a community celebration that brought people from Thurrock’s diverse communities together.

The amazing replica cake was commissioned by One Community Development Trust. Chair, Sarah Bryant, said: “It’s the Clock Tower’s 80th anniversary this year. Did you know it was built in 1934 with money sent by people living in Tilbury, Canada? It was later refurbished and dedicated as a memorial to the World Wars. We think it’s an excellent reflection of community spirit and oneness.”

The heritage cake was a fitting end to a series of community activities grant-funded by Thurrock Council in association with Thurrock CVS. One Community Project

Coordinator, Yewande Kannike, said: “Over the summer local people enjoyed family-friendly trips to the Olympic Park and Science Museum, and the celebration event gave everyone a chance to get together and have a bit of a boogie – even the Mayor joined in!’
