THURROCK’S ladies team returned a great result on Sunday. They won the

ladies team championship in the Essex 10 mile road race which was

combined with the Tiptree 10. On a rural course in perfect conditions

the Club’s v35 trio excelled, also winning the open team race.

Toni Noble was the first to finish, finishing 3rd overall in the County

Championships with an excellent time of 69m40s. Her medal haul amounted

to 5 because she was 2nd in the v35 age group in both the open and

County event and won gold in both the open and County team win.

Good support came from Amy Trencher who was 10th lady with a time of

74m36s. In form Amy also returned a personal best in the Met Police 10k

earlier in the week with a time of 43m+. Victoria Peacock, like her two

team mates a Grays resident, had arguably her best race in Harriers

    colours finishing 11th in 74m38s.

Pat Dobbs was silver medalist in the 70+ section, with a time of

89m53s. In the 60+ age group Mick Bumstead was on his way to a gold

medal when his fragile achilles tendon cried halt. Bernie Johnson was

Thurrock’s other finisher with a time of 75m9s.

Some excellent unreported results emerged from the Southend 10k. Paul

Green was the first Club member across the line in 28th position. His

time of 37m23s indicates he is back to form. in 45th spot Nick Trencher

recorded a personal best of 38m48s. An amazing improvement came from

under 17 Oliver Mann whose 39m13s was an improvement of 4 minutes and

    earned him 51st spot.

Mick Bumstead won the 60+ section of the race with an excellent-for-age

time of 39m55s. An eye opening performance came from Gary Cahill

(senior) who improved to 40m03s. One place behind him in 69th was Jason

Syrett (40m05s). Thurrock’s other 2 finishers were Bernie Johnson,

    44m11s, and Amy Trencher 44m51s.

This weekend Thurrock hosts the Essex Cross Country League at One Tree

Hill. There is a race for the under 11s at 11.15 and the main programme

    starts at 12.00.

Thurrock should be well represented in all age groups. The under 13

boys will be trying to continue their winning ways after their cross

    country relay championship win.
