Football: Grays Ath still Kings at Hampton

FA Trophy 1st Round

Hampton and Richmond 0 v 3 Grays Athletic

THE BLUES have enjoyed rich pickings at the Beveree Stadium in recent times and it did not stop here at they won 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Having won 4-0, earlier in the season, the Blues should have been in confident moon against a Hampton team that seem to be a little bit out of sorts this season.

It was an even game for the first 45 minutes which must have given The Beavers hope, especially with a teenage debutant in goal.

But it was a burst of three goals in the second half that saw Grays through to the second round of a cup they have won twice in recent years.

Winger Joao Carlos opened the scoring in the 54th minute followed by Freddie Ladapo in the 64th minute. In the 73rd minute, Jamie Guy put away a penalty to go a long way in restoring any dent in confidence suffered by the midweek defeat to Leiston.

Despite the three goals, much of the credit must go to the Grays defence that look much more balanced with the new pairing of Mark Bentley and Jay Siva.
