HUNDREDS gathered to wave farewell to the Astor cruise ship, bound for Australia from Tilbury port.
The Astor, capable of carrying 600 passengers in luxury, will arrive in Freemantle on 13th December.
Jonathan Catton, Thurrock’s museum curator had earlier given a talk to a packed hall on the history of cruise liners berthed at Tilbury and the "ten pound poms" emigrating to Australia.
The Mayor and Deputy were in attendance.
