Thurrock’s disgrace: A mile of rubbish dumped in Purfleet

ALMOST a mile of rubbish and detritus has been dumped in Purfleet.

The sea of filth has been dumped on wasteland called Cory’s Wharf across the road from Purfleet railway station.

It took the YT reporter almost twenty minutes to walk the full length of the fly-tipped mile.

Some of the rubbish contains correspondence and documentation from areas across the country.

It would appear that Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle Price is linking the fly-tipping with an alleged illegal encampment nearby.

A comment on her twitter feed which had a picture of fly-tipping attached said: "Hmm @EssexPCC thinks MPs are exaggerating reports of antisocial behaviour at unauthorised traveller sites?

A spokesperson for Thurrock Council said: "Thurrock Council is aware of the situation on land it owns in Purfleet and is working with partners in the police and the Environment Agency to tackle this issue, bring the perpetrators to book and recoup the clean-up costs – estimated to be in the thousands.

"The council will be investigating the site for toxic or otherwise dangerous material before any final decision on its removal is taken.
