TWO people, including a 12-year-old boy, were treated by Ambulance Service paramedics following a fire at a house in Manning Street, Aveley.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one house reel to tackle the fire, which broke out in a bedroom.

The fire was extinguished by 22:31 hrs. Firefighters used a high pressure fan to clear the house of smoke.

The boy suffered burns to his legs. The second male casualty needed oxygen therapy after breathing in smoke. Both were left in the care of Ambulance paramedics.

Acting Station Officer Russ Freeman, from Grays Fire Station who was incident commander, said: "When we arrived at the scene there was a well developed fire in the bedroom of the property. Mum, dad and three children had got out of the property before we arrived.

"Crews worked quickly to get the fire under control and by ventilating the property effectively were able to see the fire and so it was easier to deal with. The fire was out and the property clear of smoke within half an hour.

"The family’s eldest son suffered burns to his thigh. His dad suffered from mild smoke inhalation. They were both taken to hospital by Ambulance."

It appears the incident was triggered accidently.
