THE Rotary Club of Corringham Thameside’s annual “Give-A-Can” appeal took on a new dimension this year. For the past twenty years, Rotarians from the club have stood outside Morrison’s store and asked customers to donate a can of food for the homeless.

This year, Corringham Primary School joined the appeal. Headteacher, Lorna Hamilton invited the club to bring the appeal into the school for the very first time.

At the school assembly on Monday 24th November, Rotarians Ann Nash and David Fenn talked to the children about those who are homeless and how their gifts would help them.

During the week, a magnificent 411 cans were brought in by the children. Each child who donated a can was given a special sticker which read “I gave a can”.

The Rotarians collected a further 1354 cans at Morrison’, making a grand total of 1765 which were handed over to the Salvation Army for distribution to thos in need.

The club would like to thank both the school and Morrison’s (who also donated) for their support and of course to all who gave so generously to this worthy cause.
