GRAYS Methodist Church has received a seasonal gift of £8,515 from a local Trust to help upgrade the church’s electrics and repair roofing and gutters.

The Veolia North Thames Trust (VNTT) made the grant at its most recent meeting which distributed over £250,000 to local community and environmental projects. The funding will help the Church maintain the 1939 building to its current high standard.

Rev Brenda Gutberlet, said, “We are very appreciative indeed of this gift from the Trust, not just for ourselves but on behalf of the many organisations that use our facilities.

Grays Methodist Church is a growing and vibrant fellowship with around 60 members and many others in regular worship aged between 0-90 but other groups that use the premises here include a pre-school, toddler group, Brownies, Guides, Homemakers group, dance classes, local choirs, and a Food Bank. We are all very pleased to be going into this Festive Season knowing that we can undertake this important programme of work. ”

Doug Benjafield, Chair of VNTT, said, This is the second tranche of funding which VNTT has awarded to this church. The Trustees and I are particularly impressed by the amount of community and outreach work that the team here undertakes including supporting local Food Banks and the Whitechapel Mission for the homeless”.

He added, “2014 has been a very busy year for the Trust and we have been pleased and proud to be able to support a large number of diverse projects across South Essex. We are delighted to be able to end the year on such a positive note and look forward to continuing to work within our local communities during 2015”.
