Approval given for Free School in Chafford Hundred

IT HAS been a long time coming but in the end, planning permission for a new primary school in Chafford Hundred has been approved by Thurrock Council.

For close to a decade, parents have campaigned for more primary school places in Chafford.

However, the approval for the new Harris Academy Primary was not without controversy.

For many, it was the question of traffic that still weighed heavily over the issue, with local campaigner such as John Bennett, who runs the Chafford Hundred traffic forum on Facebook, making representations at the meeting at Civic Offices.

There was clearly also concerns that once again at a planning meeting, just when democratically elected councillors wanted more time, the director of planning, David Bull, intervened in the meeting.

Below is a 20 min film of the events on Thursday evening.
