THURROCK Council is taking steps to entice qualified social workers who have experience of working in children’s services back into the profession by running a Return to Social Work course.
The ten-day training course, which starts in March, will provide social workers who have been thinking of returning to work with an opportunity to brush up on their skills and experience, regain their confidence and get up-to-date with current legislation and practices.
Cllr Bukky Okunade said: “It has been increasingly difficult to recruit social workers, but we are rethinking our approach by taking steps to get qualified social workers back into this demanding, but highly rewarding profession.
“The new course is an excellent example of how we are improving the way we recruit and retain social workers in Thurrock. The course is designed to give qualified social workers an opportunity to re-acquaint themselves with working in children’s social care.
“Also, people who successfully complete the course have the possibility of joining our team as a permanent member of staff.”
