SEEING former MP and TV star Gyles Brandreth in Grays on Wednesday night (filming live for BBC’s The One Show) caused Your Thurrock to dip into his very entertaining autobiography.
On page 522, Brandreth recalls a conversation he had when he was selected as a candidate for Chester in 1991.
He asked the retiring MP for a little bit of advice.
The then MP, Peter Morrison said: "If you want my advice, never talk politics in the constituency.
"On the great national issues..take the moral high ground. You can’t go wrong.
"On local issues, keep you head down.
"And anything to do with planning, don’t touch."
Gyles Brandreth won in Chester in 1992. He lost in 1997.
