THURROCK MEP and Councillor Tim Aker has strongly opposed plans by the Clinical Commissioning Group to close Grays walk-in centre.
Tim Aker MEP said: “The Grays walk-in centre is vital to our local community. There is absolutely no way it should close and I will do all I can to stop that happening. It must remain serving the community as it is doing so well now.
“Grays walk-in centre is used by everyone in Thurrock who can’t get an appointment and the closure would put even more pressure on Basildon A & E.
“I know that residents in Grays and elsewhere in Thurrock will be furious that once again bread and butter local services like this are being placed under the microscope, all the while the government allows foreign visitors who haven’t paid in to cost the NHS billions per year. Labour’s dodgy PFI deals have also helped virtually bankrupt the NHS with billions being handed to private companies under their watch.
“British taxpayers want local and deserve local services. Let’s stop allowing health tourism in the NHS from those coming from abroad who haven’t paid in, stop shipping abroad billions in foreign aid, stop giving the EU billions every year and back vital local services like this for local people.
“Whether elected as MP in May or not, I be making the case in Grays to help keep open this vitally important local service.”
