RM19, the Royal Opera House Thurrock Youth Vocal Group is celebrating the success of one of its members, Charlie Innes, who has been accepted to sing with the National Youth Choir.
South Ockendon resident, Charlie, 14, auditioned for the National Youth Choir after Dominic Peckham, Artistic Director of RM19, recommended he should try for a place. He attended an audition along with more than 600 other young people, at the Royal Albert Hall, singing prepared pieces in front of a singing teacher and a conductor.
There are eight different choirs within the National Youth Choir and Charlie was offered one of 20 places in the Cambiata (Changing voices choir for boys).
Charlie has been with RM19 for more than two years and has more recently also joined the Royal Opera House Thurrock Community Chorus.
Charlie said: ‘Thurrock Community Chorus and RM19 are both great experiences that I am still enjoying just as immensely as when I started.
"I am hoping to continue doing choral, operatic and modern music with all my choirs.
"I have begun to think about attempting a career in music. I can progress through the National Youth Choir to its top tier which paves the way for young professional singers so with enough work I could become a professional and perhaps even, world-class singer.’
