Hockey: Saturday results round-up

Thurrock Ladies Seconds 1 v 0 Brentwood 3

The score line does not reflect Thurrock’s dominance throughout the game as without the almost match winning performance of the Brentwood keeper the final result would of been significantly higher!

Player of the match was Ruth Hall.

Ladies 3rds 1 v 3 Brentwood

The first half was frustrating as the ladies had made an impressive start.Shannon Harvey attacked brentwood from the first pass back and almost scored within the first minute.confidence was high.player of the match Paige Green went close on a number of occasions.

Against the run of play Brentwood scored. Thurrock lost their flow and 2 further goals went in.

At half time the team rallied and the second half saw a more confident performance.Eira Booth in goal proved to be unbearable with some fine self assured clearances.

Laura Reynolds Marshalled the team well in defence.

Ellie Harvey had a fine game in defence and broke down many of the attacks.

Katie Lawrence and Charlotte Adnams worked well in the middle and created an opportunity for Green to break through and score a well deserved solo goal.

The ladies fought for their next goal with Chloe Storer and jade Franklin making excellent breaks down the wings.

Veteran Jude Hare was working tirelessly pushing forward to get the scoreline narrowed. But the ladies battle was not won and another loss was accrued

Mens 1’s Div 3 South-East

Thurrock 2 v 4 Southend

Thurrock Mens first team played away at Southend. Jeff West scored two first half goals to take Thurrock into the break leading 2-1.

Southend came back strongly in the second half as you would expect from top of the league.

Three goals for Southend meant the game ended 4-2 to Southend.

Division 7 South East.

Thurrock Men’s 2’s 3 v 0 Upminster 6th team.

Thurrock earned a good win against Upminster with all three goals coming in the first half.

Two goals from Callum Harvey in only his second second team game, plus a goal from Ricky Smith sealed the points. The second half was much more even, but Upminster rarely threatened the Thurrock goal. Joe Harvey was awarded man of the match in his first 2nd team game.

Home again next week to high flying Maldon.

THURROCK 3rd 2 v 0 MALDON 3rd

Thurrock went into the lead within the first minute when Bradley Rust collected the ball from the push back and went on a mazy run leaving a string of Maldon players in his wake before passing to Michael Fleming who drlbbled into the D before smashing the ball into the net.

Thurrock maintained their dominance and Ryan Jones was unlucky to see his shot hit the outside of the post after seizing on a scrambled Maldon clearance Gradually Maldon got into the game and defenders Aaron Saunders. Hayden Keeler-Stone and Dave Leeks had to be on their best form to cut out some threatening attacks.

In the second half Thurrock stepped up their pressure and forced the visitors into defence being denied a penalty when a shot appeared to be stopped by a foot on the line, however justice was done within minutes when Fleming scored his second goal from a short corner shot which left the keeper rooted to the spot.

Maldon came back strongly and keeper Danny Hick had to make a diving save to push a shot around the post. However such attacks were rare as Thurrock played the better hockey and only a series of outstanding saves by their keeper prevented any further score
