GP crisis as Tilbury surgery set to close

THE Doctor’s Surgery at 57 Calcutta Road will close on 31 May 2015. This is due to the landlord choosing not to renew the lease, which means services can no longer stay in the building.

Prior to Dr PK Mukhopadhyay’s retirement, he went into partnership with the doctors at Sai Medical Centre at 105 Calcutta Road. As Sai Medical Centre is within a short walking distance of The Doctor’s Surgery, it is being proposed that all patient care will transfer to Sai Medical Centre in the future. NHS England will be working closely with The Doctor’s Surgery and the Sai Medical Centre to ensure that this transfer is smooth and that patient services are not affected when The Doctor’s Surgery closes.

NHS England will ensure that patients are kept fully informed of changes to their care in relation to the closure. Until further notice patients can continue to access services at The Doctor’s Surgery as usual.

Carolyn Larsen, Head of Primary Care (Essex) for NHS England, (East), said:

“We understand this news could be upsetting for patients, some of whom have been using this surgery for many years. We are working hard to minimise any disruption this may cause.

“NHS England is committed to ensuring that all patients have access to high-quality primary care services.”
