LABOUR candidates have organised an "anti-privatisation of the rail" event on Wednesday April 1st.
Ella Vine, Labour’s council candidate for Stanford West and Mike Le-Surf, Labour’s parliamentary candidate for South Basildon and East Thurrock are supporting the TSSA union (Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association) campaign.
The event will take place outside the rail station in Stanford le Hope, where Ella, Mike and other campaigners will distribute information leaflets to commuters.
Ella said: ‘’We want to keep rail prices low and standards high and we don’t want taxpayers’ money being ramped up by profits that go to private pockets of millionaires.
"These profits should be instead reinvested back in public services. This is especially important to people who commute every day to work, like residents of Stanford and that is why I and Mike decided to support this campaign, which is organised by the rail workers’ union on the Fools Day across the country.
"The message is simple: We are not fools; we know where the profits from rail privatisation go’’.
