Ward by Ward: Corringham and Fobbing

THERE has not been an election in this seat since 2012. On that occasion, the Conservatives did what was expected and won. But it wasn’t as emphatic as it should have been.

The Tories only won by 142 votes. The year before it was 243.

We are not saying that Labour will win this seat but it could be interesting.

You could ask, if the Conservatives were that confident then why has the sitting councillor, Mark Coxshall, doing what is called a "chicken run" and fled off to what many considered is a safer ward. Or perhaps it is something to do with the Frost Estate Parish Council. Or perhaps it is simply a matter of logistics.

Perhaps it is the presence of UKIP big hitter, Clive Broad. UKIP have never really given this seat, 100% but this might be their chance.

The Conservatives have been canny in selecting as their candidate, Deborah Stewart. Deborah was at the forefront of the "Battle of the Corringham Markets" a couple of years ago.

Since then, she has worked hard to develop a sense of community in Corringham.

Labour have also seen sense in having a candidate in Theresa Woodhouse who is in it for the long run.

    Prediction: Cons hold

    Corringham & Fobbing

    BROAD Clive Herbert, UKIP

    STEWART Deborah, Conservative

    WODEHOUSE Theresa, Labour
