THE OWNERS of the Harris Academy in Chafford Hundred have said that the clock is ticking as they hunt for a site for their second senior school in Thurrock.
The Department for Education agreed a proposal to open a new secondary school to serve "the area around Chafford Hundred" in Thurrock originally planned to open in 2015.
"Unfortunately problems in acquiring a site near to Chafford Hundred and losing the preferred site to a third party purchaser meant that the opening has had to be delayed.
"We are currently working with the Local Authority to find another site which may serve the area between Chafford Hundred and Purfleet (which is due for major redevelopment in the next few years and demand for secondary places will increase as a result).
The target date for opening is now 2016 if we can have a site secured by the end of August 2015 – which will allow us to run an admissions process in Autumn 2015 for 2016 entry.
