THE SHEHADEH medical centre in Tilbury has been placed into special measures by a government watchdog.
CQC made a number of criticisms as it branded the Quebec Road centre as "inadequate".
The report, published after an inspection in December, stated that patients may be at risk of harm because “systems and processes” weren’t in place to keep them safe.
It also stated that there was insufficient assurances made to demonstrate people received effective care and treatment.
The report also found that care was inadequate for those over 75, those with long term conditions, families and children and those experiencing mental health issues.
Areas for improvement that included:
1. The identification of risks and them being appropriately managed. This includes ensuring systems are in place to review and action test results in the appropriate time period.
2. The centre should improve areas including staff being trained appropriately to chaperone patients, as well ensuring patients have access to a translation service to give them full understanding of decisions relating to their care.
The report stated that the public it spoke to said they were happy with the overall service they receive, but that they had reported difficulties in accessing appointments.
The report also stressed that staff understood how incidents should be reported, as well as their concerns, and that the practice had a clear leadership structure in place.
YT has contacted Dr Shehadeh and does intend to give a right of reply.
