Gidea Park and Romford 10 points

FOR the second consecutive week an under strength Stanford 2nd XI pulled off an unlikely result by holding on for a draw against Gidea Park and Romford.

Stand in Skipper Mark Knight won the toss and inserted Gidea Park who amassed a total of 247 from 42 overs before declaring thanks to Elliot Joyner’s unbeaten 124 not out. Stanford bowlers Andy Freeman, 1-118 from a spell of 20 overs, and Daryl Woodford, 2-32 from 11.3 overs, toiled hard for not much reward and missed opportunities in the field didn’t help to stem the flow of runs.

After tea the run chase started badly when Stanford lost an opener in the first over and quick wickets after that. However, Dave Gaylor (29) and an excellent rearguard 30 not out from Knight frustrated the away side and deprived Gidea Park of the full 25 points despite an excellent spell from opening bowler Matt Connaughton who returned figures of 6-22 including 8 maidens.
