Thurrock Marching Brass’ Poppy receives Jack Petchey award

THURROCK Marching Brass are delighted to confirm that the June 2015 winner for the Jack Petchey Achievement Award goes to Poppy Jenner.

Poppy has been with them for a number of years and has been an integral part of both the marching band and the A-Guard of Thurrock Academy, where she continues to develop her colourguard skills. In addition to her colourguard, Poppy has been an accomplished baritone player, and has also shown amazing skills on the static 4½ octave Marimba and Xylophone. She has grown through the ranks to become an amazing performer and role model. Poppy has been invited to join the full staff team and assists the Colourguard caption head for the 2015 season.

Her abilities to help and guide go way beyond her young age and she has helped to develop some of the younger members through the years. This achievement award just shows how much the members think of her and they are delighted for her.

Poppy has dedicated the £200 award to go towards the purchase of much needed performance flag poles, which will be used throughout the summer and winter programs by all members.

Speaking of the award Chairman, Paul Morgan commented “There were five incredible finalists for the June 2015 Jack Petchey Achievement Award and all of them have demonstrated very high abilities in so many areas. I am delighted for all of them but especially for Poppy who has been one of our more consistent members for a number of years. The members have clearly shown just how much they think of Poppy too, and I hope that she enjoys every second of this very well deserved recognition. Her choice for where the £200 Jack Petchey money goes to also shows her forward thinking and will provide much needed specialised flag poles that will be used by all members throughout the summer and winter programs both now and into the future. Congratulations Poppy!”

Thurrock Marching Brass would like to thank Jack Petchey and the Jack Petchey Foundation for their support in our organisation and allowing us to participate in this special award for our members. Congratulations again to Poppy for her achievement.
