Two teenagers arrested following quad bikes complaints on Blackshots Fields

TWO teenagers have been arrested following reports of quad bikes and motorbikes being driven on Blackshots playing fields in Grays.

Police received a number of calls shortly after 6.10pm on Tuesday, June 16 from members of the public concerned for the safety of children who were playing on the fields at the time.

Officers and the force helicopter attended and patrolled the area for two hours.

They arrested an 18-year-old boy on suspicion of theft of a motorcycle, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of drugs with intent to supply and driving while disqualified.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motorcycle.

Both are currently in custody awaiting questioning.

Inspector Lee Argent, local police and partnership inspector for Grays, said: "We have received a number of calls in recent weeks about groups of bikers who are endangering other people using the recreation ground as well as themselves with their reckless driving.

"We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour and will take action against these individuals, including using powers under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act to seize vehicles from persistent offenders.

"We would also encourage members of the public to contact us with any information so that we can identify those responsible.”
