PUPILS from year 6 completed their topic on World War II by inviting some senior citizens and friends of the school from the local community to share with them an afternoon tea.

Yearr 6 pupils sang songs from the era and in return the visitors recounted stories memories and experiences of their own childhood during and just after the war . Everyone really enjoyed the afternoon held at the school on Tuesday 16th June.

This is history with a difference . Real life stories from people who were there, has a big impact on the learning taking place . Pupils had been learning about all aspects of World War II including much about the ‘home front’ and ‘evacuation’ . They have built their own Anderson shelter in school grounds which they were keen to show off alongside their wartime garden .

They heard first hand accounts from evacuees and those who built shelters at the time . It was an extremely valuable part of their learning as well as being an extremely enjoyable afternoon for all .
