THE LEADER of Thurrock Council, cllr John Kent has already expressed his regret at cutting "too fast and too deep" to the environment budget.
That doesn’t seem to be appeasing the residents of Chafford Hundred who are incensed at the state of their area.
And despite, the commitment, residents, with the backing of their two local councillors, are starting a petition.
Resident, Anthony Coleman said: "Chafford has not been looked after properly for over three years plus. We pay the the highest amount of council tax per household and I believe we are being fleeced as our bands would be lower if we lived in North Grays or any other area in Thurrock aside from Orsett.
"I do not feel that, given what we pay and the size of Chafford that having it looked after is to much to ask. I appreciate that they may have to extend the length between visits to assist with cut backs but to do what is only absolutely essential is unreasonable and has and is causing damage to the area including the infrastructure.
I have been in Chafford for around 16 years and it never used to look like this".
The local councillors have also expressed their concerns and are prepared to bring the petition to the council offices.
South Chafford councillor, Charlie Key said: "I hope that the petition will ensure that Thurrock Council will listen to the residents of Chafford Hundred as they express their dissatisfaction with the level of service they are currently receiving.
"Local residents are clearly exhausted from complaining week in, week out with little change. This petition will be resident-led. Over recent years local councillors have taken up the issues of road safety, boy racers, school places, policing and the environment, but now is the time for the residents to make their voices heard.
"Chafford Hundred residents currently do not feel like they are receiving value for money for their council tax contributions, I support them in all petition efforts to better the situation.
