THURROCK Council is sending a form to every home in the borough to make sure residents do not miss out on their right to vote.
Deliveries begin on 24 July as part of the council’s annual voter registration canvass
With local elections and Police and Crime Commissioner elections taking place across the UK in May next year, this is an opportunity for people to make sure they will be able to take part.
It is particularly important anyone who has moved address recently looks out for the form and checks whether they are registered.
The aim of the form is to ensure that the electoral register is up to date and to identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.
The council is required to do this every year so the register is kept as up to date as possible.
To make sure people are able to have their say at the elections in 2016, they should simply check the form when it arrives and take the required action.
Changes can be made via the Internet or if there are no changes that can be confirmed by text, telephone or internet.
People are asked to respond as quickly as possible to prevent the need for a reminder form to be sent or a personal visit.
For those not currently registered, the council will send information explaining how to register, or they can go online to apply to register at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote .
Any residents who have any questions can contact the elections team at 01375 652816 or at [email protected]
