THE number of people contacting Thurrock Council regarding homelessness has soared in the first five months of 2015.
Between January and May 2014, there were 983 "approaches to the homeless team

Jan to May 2014: 983
Jan to May 2015: 1359
A Thurrock Council spokesperson said: "The service has seen an increased number of households seeking Housing assistance and advice.
"Thurrock Housing strategy aims to prevent homelessness at earlier stage of risks, as such the number of actual households seeking homeless assistance has relatively decreased, albeit still at a high levels."
