THURROCK Courts Players have a cunning plan – to perform a full evening of the acclaimed sitcom, Blackadder.
Presented in three acts featuring extracts from different series’, this cleverly adapted live show features all the best loved characters from Blackadder II, Blackadder the Third and Blackadder Goes Forth.
Blackadder and Baldrick are joined through the ages by Queenie, Nursie, Melchett, Percy, Prince George, Mrs Miggins, Captain Darling and whole host of other fabulous characters (not forgetting, of course, the Lord Flashheart), in this romp though some of the best episodes of this beloved BBC sitcom.
Adapted from the TV show by Courts own Luke Coldham – who will be playing the legendary Flashheart, as well as directing the piece – this is proving to be a grand task for those working behind the scenes. With 3 different sets to construct and over 20 actors playing 30 different roles, each requiring authentic looking costumes and wigs, this production has been a long time in the planning.
Performing in this show is a dream come true for some. Courts member, Victoria Grayling who will be playing Queenie, said: ‘I’m so excited to be part of this, I’m a huge Blackadder fan and to be playing such an iconic character is a pleasure and a privilege. I know the audience will be comparing us to the originals after the success of The Vicar of Dibley, and they won’t be disappointed.’
The show runs from 24 – 26 September 2015 at the Thameside Theatre with evening performances at 7.45pm and a Saturday matinee at 3pm. Tickets are priced at £12 adults, £10 concessions and are available from the society box office 07475 634 474.
