Thurrock CC 1st XI 234-10
Little Baddow CC 1st XI 183-10
By Bill West
THURROCK continued their excellent recent form with a win by 51 runs over Little Baddow.
The hosts batted first and got off to a fantastic start thanks to Umar Ayub (51), Nick Henry (44) and Daniel Laird (30). But from a comfortable position, Oscar Sawyer came on for the visitors and took six wickets, including three in his first over, to leave Thurrock struggling to even bat out the remaining overs. But Umaad Sultan made a quickfire 53 and received good support at the other end from Muhammad Rahim (11*) as Thurrock recovered superbly from a middle order collapse to post 234.
Tom Golding made 73 in reply, but while some of his fellow batsmen got starts, they couldn’t stick around long enough to threaten a victory. Umaad Sultan backed up his batting exploits earlier in the day with 4-28, while Umar Ayub took three including the key scalp of Golding as Thurrock won easily to seal their fifth win in a row.
