UKIP MEP and cllr for Aveley, Tim Aker has delivered a blunt riposte to the Traveller Movement after being reported to the Equalities and Human Rights Commission by the pressure group.
Cllr Tim Aker MEP said: "When the organisation ‘Traveller Movement’ stand for election they have a right to say what is and what is not in the interests of the people. Until then they can butt out.
"I have had great success and completely positive feedback from constituents to my campaign to make unauthorised traveller sites a criminal offence, like in Ireland.
"Any resident who has to see sites spring up on a near daily basis across Thurrock and rubbish left over would obviously agree with me. The Malvern Road site is like someone pitching up in your garden for two years, then forcing their name onto the tenancy agreement for another five years and then leaving you with the bill for clean up afterwards.
"If the best that the ‘Traveller Movement’ campaign can do is to report me to the Equalities Commission, it is a lot like the hopeless seeking help from the pointless. Where is the Equality for my constituents who see their money pay for clear up of illegal sites and less money going towards local services."
