Ryman Premier
Enfield Town 1 v 1 East Thurrock United
ENFIELD and East Thurrock have now met 17 times at senior level and Town have yet to win one of them!
Several of those 17 matches have been classics, but Monday’s game at Queen Elizabeth II Stadium won’t live long in the memory.
On a difficult pitch, flowing play by both sides was inhibited and good passing moves were few and far between.
Injury-hit Rocks were aggrieved in the second minute when Harry Honesty chased down a backpass and nicked the ball past keeper Nathan McDonald whose impetus saw him crash into the Rocks youngster.
Their mood wasn’t helped six minutes later when Darnell Wynter was given acres of space, not for the first time in the opening exchanges, and he curled a shot from the edge of the box past the despairing dive of Lukas Lidakevicius for the game’s opener.
Rocks responded well and dominated possession for the rest of the half, though they lacked a potent goals threat. Dave Bryant missed a chance to get on the end of a low cross and Honesty’s shot was headed off the line by Harold Joseph.
The second half continued in much the same vein with Rocks pressing but it wasn’t until subs Tom Anderson and Ben Wood came on just after the hour and that Rocks changed their shape that they got the equaliser when Honesty slipped the ball into the path of Tom Wraight who drilled a low angled shot home.
The closing stages saw half chances at both ends but in the end honours were even and Rocks maintained their jinx over the Towners.
