THE second strings of the “Big Name” Clubs, Saracens, Richmond and now Wasps are often unexpected banana skins in Championship South. They can vary wildly in strength depending on who their 1st XV is playing in the Premiership and often include seasoned internationals “Returning from Injury”.
This time, newly promoted Wasps 2nd XV were poor. Even with the T-Birds slowly integrating new faces after having their International 7s stars withdrawn, they were just too fast, strong and skilful in every department.
From the 5th minute the scoreboard ticked over nicely, the 5 try bonus point coming on the half hour and 7 trys bringing the half time score to 41-0.
Showing no mercy and sending another signal to the RFU that they are trapped in the wrong league, despite injuries and substitutions, the second half was similar, 6 more trys bringing the final score to 77-0.
With Rettie, Tyler and Harvey beginning to gel in midfield, Tuson running in from all angles and with Emerson, Corales and Prosser due back from injury soon, the future is looking rosy.
After 2 games, Thurrock T-Birds are back where they belong, Top of the League.
